I am passionate about nature and wildlife photography as well as conservation. With the ever increasing human population growth and the demand that puts upon our natural resources, it becomes harder to maintain purely natural places and wildlife has to continually adapt to human alterations. Unfortunately, some of these changes happen to quickly for species to adapt and their population suffers dramatically, sometimes to extinction. Humans also need to be educated and aware of how their actions affect the natural world and the importance that the natural world has to their lives. Over harvesting of wildlife not only can decrease a food supply, but can eventually lead to loss of jobs and can affect other species which may in turn affect humans in a negative manner. Diminishing top predators can lead to a population explosion of prey that may be considered pests that can in turn spread disease and decreased living conditions. The examples are endless.

I find the natural world to be beautiful and therapeutic. Even when it is mixed with some man-made structures, it shows that humans and nature can coexist peacefully in ways that are mutually beneficial. Environmental education must increase and be spread world-wide. Environmental evaluations and plans must be conducted to continue to move forward in a world where humans, wildlife and wildlife habitats can continue to thrive, environmental disasters can be avoided and cleanups and corrections can try to address previous incidents.

My hope is that my photos inspire others to protect wildlife, their habitats and the natural world.

Please note that all of my photos were taken with the utmost respect for the subject and every caution was taken to not stress the subject or alter its natural behavior.

~ Jacques Yves Cousteau
